Profile
Designer - AYA Kataoka
During her 12 years as a student, she was exposed to costume design while working as an artistic swimmer, and at the age of 18, she decided to go to Paris, France to study.
During this time, she encountered Olympia Le-Tan, and after an internship she became involved in production, which made embroidery a familiar experience to her.
Working on the embroidery of Olympia's creative, free and playful works has had a great influence on my expression, sensibility and way of thinking.
She then enrolled in Ecole LESAGE, run by the leading embroidery atelier LESAGE (an atelier that creates embroidery for haute couture collections such as CHANEL and Dior), and mastered Luneville embroidery.
At the same time, she interned at the haute couture brand ALEXIS MABILLE, where she was involved in the production of works and shows, learning about "Luneville embroidery as haute couture."
Her subsequent experience working for an haute couture brand run by a Qatari conglomerate (based in Doha, Qatar) also added a major spice to SWIMAYA.
After returning to Japan, he founded SWIMAYA in order to express in his work the sensitivities and sense of color he experienced in the vastly different cultures and backgrounds of Japan, France, and Qatar.
She currently has an atelier in Karuizawa, where she expresses her inspiration from nature and the sensibilities she has cultivated through the medium of embroidery.
